Fashion Week: The ‘BIG FOUR’ season, New York, London, Milan and Paris, as paramount as the Big African Five, occurring every year as religiously as Sunday mass. Fashion Week for me, is like Christmas for my eye sensory receptors.

When I think back to my glory days (or lack thereof): 9 years of age, covered in puppy fat, sitting cross-legged, eyes glued to my 50inch bulky T.V set. Watching my all time favourite channel, Fashion TV―over cartoon network―at any opportunity, I could. I always dreamt that one day, I would grow into my skin and find myself strutting down the catwalks for the likes of Chanel, Versace and Prada, to name a few. Reality hit when I turned 15 and my mum took me to STORM models in Cape Town and I was swiftly denied for being a P.O.R.G (Person of restricted growth) even though ANN assured me that they wouldn’t notice the kitten heels she forced me to wear for the added inches. I still didn’t make the cut.

5 foot 3, my best friend calling me ‘fatso’ and my uncanny horse teeth. My dreams were crushed. My modelling “career” became a pipe dream but this didn’t deter me from my love of fashion. Watching my favourite fashion channel or trying on ANN’s 7-inch heels. I quickly became fascinated with the way a gown would cascade down the runaway, the intricate applique details on a dress, perfectly structured blazes, vibrant prints and never seen before ‘dare to wear’ creations. I was hooked. Vogue was my bible and clothes were my kryptonite, and still, stands to this day.
